Watched my first movie in 2006 last night - "DERAILED".
It's a thriller starring Clive Owens as Charles, who is an advertising exec ("who cons housewives") in a slightly troubled marriage, and a daughter who suffered from diabetes. He met Jennifer Aniston (Lucinda), a financial advisor ("who cheats customers' money") on a train who offered to pay his train ticket since there's no money in his wallet. Then they had a fling... and tried to make out in a hotel. Suddenly someone came in and tried to rob them and even 'raped' Aniston. When Owens wanted to go to the police, Aniston refused cos she wanted to protect her family and she doesn't want to let her husband know that she had betrayed him.
After a few days, the guy who robbed Owens & Aniston in the hotel made phone calls to Owens, asking for a loan of US$20,000. And even appeared at his house, posing as his client, a Frenchman called "Mr. Laroche". He demanded US$100,000 and he would leave his whole family in peace then.
A colleague of Owens tried to help him solve his problem but was killed. His colleague, Winston, had an uncle who is a detective who suspected Owens killed his nephew.
The twist came when Owens finally found out that Aniston is actually not Lucinda but her part-time secretary!!! and when he reached her apartment, he found out that the place was actually up for rent!! and the picture which Aniston showed him on the train saying she's her daughter is actually from the Brochure!!! He vowed to get his US$100,000 by himself!
He found out that Aniston had used similar method to hook up with another guy at the train station. Then they had lunch and decided to make out that fateful night. They went to the same hotel. And that mugger who is actually Aniston's boyfriend and a black guy who is in cahoots with them appeared in the hotel.
Owens clearly knew what they are going to do, hence, he hit the mugger when he's trying to gain access into the room. He passed out but not for too long. Then there were gunshots and all of them died, Owens finally claimed the US$100,000 from the 'safe deposit' at the counter of the hotel. Hmm... so the counter guy is also in the plot???
The final twist came when Owens was sent to jail for social work since he embezzled some money from his ad agency. He teach at the prison and there's this composition exercise. A prisoner by the name "Side Tracker" wrote a story that pulled Owens' heart. It sounded exactly what he went through... and the ending of the story mentioned that he would go to the laundry room... and it was then that the mugger appeared. He didn't die with one gunshot. When the mugger was so smug that it took great pains for him to track down Owens and that he came to the wrong prison, Owen retaliated and told the mugger "No, I chose this prison" and stabbed him with this 'good luck charm' that Winston gave him.
The story is quite ok. At least I didn't fall asleep.... But strange... why didn't Aniston and her gang get caught performing this ritual more than once?? She didn't look too GREAT in the movie to make men die for her willingly leh...
After the movie, I had my first attempt at the food in "Changing Appetites" in Marina Square. I had the Fish n Chips. Emily had the "WOW" mushroom pizza. The food tasted ok. I tried the Strawberry Shake. Yum Yum!!!! I love that taste!!!!!
