Music And Lyrics
Watched this movie over the weekends as there's nothing much to watch... Sigh... Singapore is pretty boring lah... What else can we do except watch "midnight shows", go KTV, go pubbing/clubbing over the short weekends?
The movie was ok. Simple storyline and no surprises.
The chemistry between Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore is hmm... strange... but I have to admit the way they shoot the mtv on the 80's hit "Pop Goes My Heart" was really hilarious!! It's very very 80's! The 'checked background' that makes me feel dizzy, the hairstyle and the clothes!! and the 'storyline' behind the mtv. HAHAHA....
I like Drew Barrymore's description of music and lyrics as "music is when you first see the person and you wanted to have sex, but the lyrics are what lets you know more about the person, the story..." (can't really remember the exact words).
And also the irony of the Western music industry - borrow cultures and influences from the East - like the Indian Music, the buddha at this popstar "Cora's" concert... ermm... isn't this a bit too superficial?? I don't really like the way they make that singer dress so skimpishly and coming out from behind the Buddha's statue... its like not respecting the religion, and using it just for the sake of some commercial value and purely a western fascination of the eastern cultures.
